Three Secret Ways to Measure Your Partner’s Ring Size

  • July 10, 2019

You’re alone when it comes to finding out your partner’s ring size. Thousands of people have tried to guess the size of their partner’s ring, and in most cases, it doesn’t work out as planned. Whether you’re looking for custom engagement rings, wedding rings or diamond rings in Calgary, you’re going to have to know the exact size.

But how do you go about finding out their ring size without them finding out?

The Three Secret Ways To Find Your Partner’s Ring Size

Use A Bar Of Soap

This might be a little bit of a sneaky trick, but it has worked well in the past. All you have to do is get one of your partner’s rings (make sure it’s one they always wear) and press it into a bar until it creates an impression. Clean off the ring and make sure it looks normal. From there, place the bar of soap in a sandwich bag and take it to your custom jewellery shop in Calgary. With the impression you’ve made, the jeweller will be able to take measurements and create a custom ring for you.

Borrow One Of Their Rings

This is probably the oldest trick in the book, but it also is the one with the most significant risk. It’s easy enough to take a ring from your partner’s collection and take it a jeweller to get measured. You just have to make sure which finger and hand they wear the ring on, as it impacts the design. A person’s dominant hand might be larger than their less dominant hand, so you have to borrow a ring that they’re going to wear on their non-dominant hand and finger. There is also the risk that if you lose the ring, you better have a good back-up story to tell your partner!

Trace The Ring With A Pen And Paper

Borrow a ring that your beloved uses often (make sure it’s one that she wears on her ‘ring’ finger, left hand right of pinky finger) and place it on a piece of paper. Get a pencil or pen, and trace the inside of the ring on a piece of paper. Make sure the measurements are precise, and if you need, make multiple traces, so the jeweller has a few impressions to build a design from. The last thing you want is a custom engagement ring that not the right size. The only issue with this trick is the jeweller won’t have a 3D visual of the size of the ring (like from a bar of soap). But if they’re a reliable jeweller, then you won’t have a problem.
